Two scientific articles were published in June 2019 in the journal Hernia. Both compare laparoscopic technique with and without robotic assistance. Both articles conclude that robotic surgery is as safe and has comparable results to traditional laparoscopic technique (TEP and TAPP).
With the help of robotics, better ergonomics are achieved and there are increased possibilities for working precisely in narrow areas, compared to conventional laparoscopic technique. Advantages of robotic surgery have not yet been demonstrated for this promising new technique.
