Ultrasound is a good method for detecting inguinal and femoral hernias with no clinical signs

A review article and meta-analysis published in Eur Radiol, May 2018, showed — based on 16 studies analyzed in the meta-analysis — that the positive predictive value (PPV) was 85.6 % (95 % CI, 76.5–92.7 %) for diagnosing inguinal hernia without clinical signs.

The same study also showed that ultrasound was a good method for differentiating between inguinal and femoral hernias.
